Norton AFB Museum to Open Next Week

Glass cases are polished and shining. Walls are hung with photos and memorabilia. The Norton Air Force Base Museum in San Bernadino, Calif., is nearly ready for its big day on Wednesday. The occasion is the grand opening of the museum.

“The base closed in 1994, so this is something that is long overdue,” said Bob Edwards, museum board president.”People will get to walk through the history of Norton – from its opening in 1942 to its closing in 1994.”

A 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Edwards said he has been too busy for the opening to get nervous or excited and is hoping veterans and civilians will uncover their stuff – from the rafters and from under the bed. Donations of historical items are appreciated, he said.

The opening ceremony, set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, will also feature the dedication of the 63/445 Norton Veterans Monument, dedicated to both military and civilian personnel.
