For the last two weeks, we’ve been doing things a little differently here at Flight Journal.com. I’m Mike Harbour, the new online editor, and our new goal is to keep this site updated daily with breaking news from the world of aviation. We’re including both civil and military items, so visit us every day to catch up on the latest developments on all things related to flight.

Of course, I realize the information superhighway is a two-way street, so if you see something newsworthy in the aviation scene we may have missed, please let me know and I’ll try to get the word out. Timeliness is key in this day and age, so the sooner we know you can get some info to us, the better. Images and video would be greatly appreciated, too, if available. Feel free to send your item to mikeh@airage.com and we’ll go from there.

I’ll also use this space for things of interest that didn’t make our front page, if you will, and here’s the first one: fellow Texan Dan Linn, a private pilot and blogger, posted a great video of a newly restored Grumman F3F-2′s first flight at Sonoma Valley Airport in Calif., back in mid-September. The plane’s owner, Chris Prevost, flies out of what has to be one of the coolest general aviation airports in the country; SVA is chock full of awesome warbirds, sweet aerobatic ships and some classy light planes. Anyway, you’ll love watching that Grumman fly! Despite it’s barrel-chested looks, it’s a graceful bi-plane and you can tell from the video Chris loves his bird!

One more thing: we’re going to start a contest here called Photo of the Week. Yep, I’m quite proud of such an original name, but never mind that because what matters is the winner gets a prize! Does that get your attention? I thought it would, so send us a well-composed, high-resolution image you took of an aviation subject (one entry per person per week). Include the details, of course, but also be sure to tell us why the shot is significant. A Boeing 737 pushing back from a gate at LAX does not necessarily a winner make, but if there’s a good story behind it, the opposite could be true. C’mon, give us your best shot!

    I just your article on the new Flight Journal.com. And I like it. I also read your magazine every time I get a chance. The reason I do not subscribe to the magazine is the way the postal service handles the mail.

      Thanks, Milan, for your comments. Everyone here at Flight Journal works hard to make our print and online editions the best they can be, so we appreciate the kind words. I’m sorry to hear about the mailing issues, but if you’re in the U.S., a conversation with your local postal carrier or postmaster might be in order if you want to take advantage of our great subscription rates!
