Dave’s most memorable story from his civilian career was the result of a beer fuelled conversation in 1975 about whether somebody could water ski behind a helicopter. “We had seen it done behind seaplanes, “do you think we could do that” I was asked, “Yes why not!” I was concerned about the rope and the rotor, I went ahead and applied power, I pulled him right out of the water about 5 feet, nearly losing control because I was laughing so much!” “On the second attempt it was successful. I took two of the guys who wanted to do it, one guy was nearly skipping off the water!”
