The Flight of Enterprise

Today on August 14,1977, the Space Shuttle Enterprise, crewed by astronauts Fred Haise and Gordon Fullerton, made its first ever free flight un-powered flight, from the top of a modified Boeing 747 during Shuttle Approach and Landing Tests. This NASA photo was taken soon after the Enterprise and the 747 shuttle carrier aircraft separated for the free flight and Enterprise’s glide testing and landing.
