Shuttle Transport Heads to New Home

The Shuttle Carrier Aircraft will soon be calling the Space Center Houston home. As parts of the Boeing 747 makes their way from Ellington Field to the space center, the move will cause several road closures.

Throughout the day Monday, people came to take pictures and to see the 747 before it left Ellington Field. “It gives you goose bumps, really. Just an awesome feeling,” said Alaine Hergert.

The 747 started its trip from the airfield to Highway 3 just after 3 p.m. Monday. Utility workers moved lines that were in its way. Boeing workers spent nearly 40 days taking apart the jumbo jet. It will take as long to put it back together at Space Center Houston.
