Jets, Biplanes, Warbirds Headline Miramar

Active duty military patriots are grounded for the 2013 Miramar Air Show in California. Instead, civilian ones will headline the annual air fest this fall, the Marine Corps said Monday, releasing its confirmed lineup of performances.

The Patriots Jet Team of volunteer civilian pilots will fly the San Diego skies Oct. 4 and 5 in their Aero L-39 jets, serving as main attraction for this year’s truncated, two-day event. Other civilians booked for the air show include Sean Tucker in his high-performance biplane Oracle Challenger III biplane, Chuck Aaron in the Red Bull MBB BO-105 helicopter and John Collver in his North American AT-6 War Dog, a World War II-era fighter plane trainer.

Ground-level attractions include the Shockwave Jet Truck, which races at more than 300 mph against airplanes. The Twilight Show on Saturday will conclude with “a spectacular fireworks demonstration” and the “Great Wall of Fire,” said 1st. Lt. Chad Hill, a Miramar spokesman.
