California Pilot Aims to Set World Record Flight

Jack Wiegand is not your typical 20-year-old. It’s safe to say the Bullard High (Fresno, Calif.) grad has loftier goals than most people his age.

“Starting May first I’m going to attempt to be the youngest person to solo an airplane around the world,” Wiegand said. In a little more than two weeks Jack is hoping to soar his way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

“If I’m back before my 21st birthday on June 22nd, I will have the record when I’m 20 years old.”

With 600 flight hours already under his belt, Jack is a veteran in the cockpit. His desire to become a pilot took off when his parents bought him a glider plane on his 13th birthday.
