1916 – Aircraft from the Imperial Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet seaplane carriers sink the Ottoman collier Irmingard, the largest ship sunk by air attack in World War I.
1956 – TWA Capt. William Judd flew his Cessna 180 “Star of the Red Sea” non-stop from New York to Paris – A distance of more than 3,600 miles across the North Atlantic; the flight takes just over 24 hours.
1965 – LAN Chile Flight 107, a Douglas DC-6, crashes into the side of La Corona Mountain in the Andes, about 1,200 feet below its summit, killing all 87.
