Military Helicopters 2016 Lands in Rucker Alabama

Over the past decade of war, the need for advanced rotary wing assets has grown ten-fold. Rotary wing aircraft are essential for troop delivery, MEDEVAC, close air support, logistical support,and reconnaissance. Rotary wing assets are also a major component of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) such as the USCG and Border Patrol requirements. However, this period of sustained warfare has seen a five fold increase in flight hours on airframes, resulting in a heavily fatigued fleet of aircraft. The main areas being focused on in military aviation are the upgrading of the current fleet as well as the future vertical lift (FVL) program. The Marine Corps continues to prepare for the upcoming CH-53K transition to replace the CH-53E, as well as continuing development of the Marine Helicopter Squadron One replacement helicopter(Presidential Helicopter). The Pentagon has already begun a large investment in the FVL, with some components already being tested by the services, and flight testing expected to begin within the next year. Additionally, the roll out of the Combat Rescue Helicopter (CRH) and termination of the Kiowa platform are impacting the arena of what the next generation of helicopters will look like.

With helicopter squadrons becoming so fatigued that previously scrapped platforms are being restored to operational status again, current developments are racing against the continued decay of operational capabilities. We will be presenting sessions from subject matter experts to examine how to create the platform of the future that best supports all of our warfighters, regardless of their role on the battlefield. This event will build collaborative problem solving sessions designed to provide holistic perspective, balancing real world experience with next generation research and development.
