South Bend, Ind., area residents will have an opportunity to see a circa 1929 Ford Tri-Motor airplane up close next week at Elkhart Municipal Airport. And for a fee, they’ll have a chance to fly in the historic aircraft.
The Tri-Motor was a transport aircraft produced by the companies of auto pioneer Henry Ford from 1925 through 1933. A total of 199 Tri-Motors were built, and many were used in the fledgling civilian aviation industry of that era. The aircraft, which will be at the airport on 1211 County Road 6 from Monday through Wednesday, is owned by EAA Aviation Center of Oshkosh, Wis., a nonprofit organization that works to educate the public about the aviation industry.
