Overcast skies didn’t dim the enthusiasm of passengers aboard a 1929 state-of-the-art airplane Sunday for a short flight back in time at Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport.
“It was awesome,” said 16-year-old Cassius Cunningham of Jacksonville, Fla., as he disembarked from the rare Ford Tri-Motor airplane that was America’s first commercial airliner.“It’s really an amazing opportunity. It’s really a great chance to experience our history. You can always go to a museum and see one of these things, but to actually fly in one of them, it’s just amazing.”
A member of the Civil Air Patrol, Cassius hopes to fly one day. He and his mother, Karen Cunningham, who is an inactive private pilot, were among the passengers taking a scenic flight aboard the aircraft.
