C-45 Found in New York Lake 62 Years Later

The wreck of a U.S. Air Force Beechcraft C-45 Expeditor aircraft abandoned during flight by its crew in 1952 has been located in Lake Ontario near Oswego, N.Y.

On Sept. 11, 1952, the plane, which took off from Bedford, Mass., to Griffis Air Force Base near Rome, N.Y., was crippled by an engine failure. Believing the plane would crash, the pilot, crew and passengers parachuted. They all landed safely. The plane managed to continue on a 65 mile pilotless flight until it crashed into Lake Ontario.
