Your June 2013 edition of Flight Journal had a wonderful article about Royce Williams and his flying achievements during the Korean War. As I was reading the article, the aircraft number seemed so familiar and when I saw the photos in the article, I realized where and why. I’ve photographed that aircraft on the flight deck of the USS Midway in San Diego. It seemed so small spotted next to the Aggressor Hornet and the F-4 Phantom II. I was able to get a fairly unobstructed photo of the Panther and thought you might like see it. The legacy aircraft of that era were so colorful. I’m glad to see this famous bird displayed on the Midway. Your article just enhanced my appreciation of this beautiful aircraft. The artwork in the article is beautiful and a perfect complement to this compelling article. I read the magazine from cover to cover. Every article was a great read.

Thanks for the photo, Vance. We don’t know if that’s the same airplane or one painted to look like it, but it’s nice to know there’s a tribute bird out there for Royce. — BD
