Battle of Britain Correction

A colleague who is a subscriber loaned me his copy, and I have enjoyed it. I would like to comment on “The Battle of Britain Pugilists” article as I believe it contains a small error. On page 28, Werner Moelder’s Rechlin report mentions two pitch settings on the Spitfire’s propeller. This was true for earlier Marks, but every Spitfire in service had a constant speed, variable pitch propeller by 20 July 1940 and all of the Hurricanes less than a month later This propeller change substantially increased the performance of both airplanes.

Chris Johnston

Good info, Chris. Next time I see Werner, I’ll tell him. BD
