Airlines Not Done with 787 Troubles

There are more hiccups for the Boeing Dreamliner. New problems with at least two 787s have been reported during the past 36 hours, according to various media reports. And another carrier says it will take one of its 787s out of service for “preventative” checks.

Two of latest problems involved both involved Japan Airlines (JAL) Dreamliners that had to return after “technical problems,” the BBC reports. In its report, the British broadcaster says the de-icing system failed on one of the Dreamliners while “an electrical glitch made six toilets unusable on another … .” Six of the latter Dreamliner’s seven toilets were not able to flush, according to the BBC.

The 787 affected by the de-icing problem had taken off from San Diego for Tokyo around 1:35 p.m. local time Wednesday. The jet returned to San Diego after the problem was discovered, landing around 3:10 p.m, according to NBC San Diego. The Dreamliner with the lavatory problems was flying from Moscow to Tokyo before being forced to return on Thursday, according to both Reuters and the BBC.
